Sasing USD Empowers STSRD VISI Yogyakarta Students through English Children's Storybook Production Training
As part of its commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma, particularly community engagement, Sasing USD organized a community service program entitled "Training on the Creative Production of English Children's Storybooks for Students of STSRD VISI Yogyakarta." The program aims to strengthen students' creative literacy and English communication skills while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in the creative industry.
The collaboration with STSRD VISI Yogyakarta was initiated in response to the growing need for globally competitive creative works. While students at STSRD VISI possess strong competencies in visual communication and illustration, they require additional support in producing English narratives that are suitable for young readers and effectively integrated with visual storytelling.
Throughout the training, participants are introduced to the essential elements of children's literature, including story structure, character development, setting, vocabulary selection, and appropriate language. They also learn practical techniques for writing simple English narratives and integrating them with compelling visual illustrations. The training emphasize practice, allowing participants to transform their creative ideas into meaningful educational storybooks.
As the program progresses, participants are expected to produce original English children's storybooks that may be showcased in STSRD VISI's student exhibitions and utilized as educational reading materials for children. The initiative is also expected to contribute to strengthening literacy, promoting creative innovation, and expanding opportunities for Indonesian creative works to reach international audiences. The program demonstrates how interdisciplinary collaboration can generate innovative learning experiences while creating a sustainable social impact through education, creativity, and community engagement.
