USD and Marinduque State University Strengthen Global Collaboration through “Voices Across Borders” Online Learning Program

Yogyakarta, March 26, 2026 — Sanata Dharma University (USD), Indonesia and Marinduque State University, Philippines, successfully conducted an international collaborative online learning session titled “Voices Across Borders: A USD-MARSU Collaborative Prose Writing and Linguistic Analysis.” The program brought together students and lecturers from both institutions in a cross-cultural academic exchange focused on prose writing and linguistic analysis.
The event commenced with an opening by the moderator, followed by welcoming remarks from Dr. Ernesto L. Largado, Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences of MarSU, and Dr. Tatang Iskarna, Dean of the Faculty of Letters at Sanata Dharma University. Both speakers emphasized the importance of global academic collaboration in enhancing students’ communication skills and cultural awareness.


The first lecture session, “Prose Writing,” was delivered by Ms. Epata Puji Astuti from Sanata Dharma University. She introduced key elements of prose, including characters, setting, conflict, plot, point of view, tone, and message. She also guided participants through the writing process, highlighting brainstorming, narrative crafting, and revision techniques. Special attention was given to creating engaging expositions, developing characterization, and using vivid verbs to bring stories to life.

The second lecture, “Linguistic Analysis,” was presented by Ms. Jean Grace M. Solina-Nazareno from MarSU. Her session provided insights into analyzing language structures and meaning, enriching students’ understanding of how linguistic elements function within written texts. To foster interactive learning, participants were divided into breakout rooms for a collaborative activity titled “Crafting a Prose.” In this session, students from both universities worked together in pairs to apply the concepts learned, encouraging intercultural communication and teamwork.



The program marking a successful first meeting of this collaborative initiative. The event not only enhanced students’ writing and analytical skills but also strengthened academic ties between the two institutions. This initiative reflects a shared commitment by Sanata Dharma University and MarSU to promote global learning experiences and prepare students for an increasingly interconnected world.
