Faculty of Letters Universitas Sanata Dharma Marks 33rd Anniversary in Solemn Celebration

A Catholic mass was held to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Letters at Universitas Sanata Dharma, attended by the dean, lecturers, and students (27/04). The mass aimed to remind the achievements and constraints throughout the whole year as a better insight for the next year.

The mass took place at Saint Robertus Bellarminus Chapel, Universitas Sanata Dharma. It was led by Father Jakobus Aditya Christie Manggala, S.J., M.Fil., and Father Heribertus Heri Setyawan, S.S., S.J., M.A. During the mass, Father Adit mentioned that in this era, literature has a prophetic side, encouraging people to be brave in fighting violence through literature. He invited everyone to promote kindness and to be protagonists in reaching world peace. Literature also becomes a tool between faith and knowledge and can be used as therapy for faith for those who are small, oppressed, or in poverty. “Thirty-three years of the journey of the Faculty of Letters is not a short time. Let’s all celebrate our anniversary of the Faculty of Letters with courage and prophetic spirit, along with building commitments to fight forgetting,” said Father Jakobus Aditya Christie Manggala, S.J., M.Fil.

At the end of the mass, the Dean of the Faculty of Letters of Universitas Sanata Dharma, Dr.Tatang Iskarna, delivered a speech. He stated that thirty-three years was a long journey full of stories, struggles, sacrifices, and hard work of the Faculty of Letters up to today. The sustainability of the Faculty of Letters was not only because of human strength, strategy, or technology, but also about effective implementation. This special mass is a form of humbleness before the Savior for the 33rd anniversary and for His wisdom for the future. At this moment, there are still some big obstacles, such as new student admission and relevance. After the speech, attendees left the chapel and were given free lunch for the day. (MF)
