PORTA by Ambarrukmo Partners with English Letters Department Universitas Sanata Dharma for Professional English Training
In preparation for welcoming international delegates, PORTA by Ambarrukmo hosted a specialized professional development program titled "English for Hospitality" on April 20 and 27, 2026. The training, organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Letters at Universitas Sanata Dharma, aimed to bolster the communication skills of hotel staff ahead of the prestigious XI WUJA Congress scheduled for later this year.
The program commenced with opening remarks from two key figures representing the academic and hospitality sectors: F.X. Risang Baskara, Ph.D, the Head of the English Letters Department at Universitas Sanata Dharma, and Ms. Ida Hidayati, the General Manager of PORTA by Ambarrukmo. Both leaders emphasized the importance of international service standards and of language as a bridge to professional excellence in the hospitality industry.

The training was divided into two intensive sessions, blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice. The initial session focused on Basic Inbound and Professional Greetings. Staff members were trained in professional grooming and attitude, standardized greetings, and check-in procedures. The second session shifted focus toward handling requests, information sharing, and farewell procedure. The program saw active engagement from a wide range of departments across the hotel, ensuring a seamless guest experience at every touchpoint. Participants included staff from: food and beverage division, sales and marketing, front office, security, concierge, engineering, and housekeeping.
To ensure the training was practical, students from the English Letters Department served as facilitators, acting as international guests in various role-play scenarios. These simulations challenged the staff to handle everything from standard check-ins to high-pressure complaints and technical issues. By the end of the sessions, every participant was equipped with a PORTA Cheat Sheet, a quick-reference guide featuring key phrases and professional responses to ensure they are ready to provide world-class service for the upcoming international congress.
