Socialize & Learn More with HMPSSING!

HMPSSING stands for Himpunan Mahasiswa Program Studi Sastra Inggris. It is the English Letters Students’ Association. HMPSSING is a student organization that supports both academic and non-academic activities for the English Letters Department’s students. HMPSSING provides a positive space for students of English Letters to grow, engage, and develop their skills based on their interests. HMPSSING has five divisions: the core committee, HUMAS (Public Relations), PSDM (Human Resources), MIBA (Talent & Interests), and Tekkom (Technology & Communication). Fortuna Devi Gunputri or also called Una, is this year’s HMPSSING chair. Una explains that HMPSSING organizes various programs and events in the English Letters Department, such as Potluck Party, ELITE, ELEVEN, REALLY, SGB, etc.
Besides organizing programs and events, HMPSSING also manages the student clubs called UKPS (Unit Kemahasiswaan Program Studi) in the English Letters Department. They are EDS (English Debate Society), ELMO (English Letters Music Organization), SMM (String Movie Maniacs), Eltonity (English Letters Badminton Community), Integrity, AVIS, LCYA (Literature for Children and Young Adults), and ELAC (English Letters Academic Club). The clubs work to accommodate students’ interests and to meet their needs to sharpen their skills and talents.

HMPSSING's roles and achievements are undeniable. They manage their programs successfully. For instance, they carried out the SGB (Sastra Gives Back) event, where they teach children who lack opportunities in learning English outside classrooms. HMPSSING also helps UKPS friends in their competitions to participate or support their needs, such as participating in MUN, Debate Competition, Film Competition, and many more. Una said that joining HMPSSING provides many benefits. HMPSSING helps students to develop their soft skills and hard skills. Joining HMPSSING also helps students get relations and networks in a supportive and inclusive community. It also gives new experiences to students. They can positively grow themself, for example, that the students can learn and connect with people from various backgrounds and perspectives.

HMPSSING is a real-life simulation of an organization. In the English Letters Department, several courses relate to real life, for example, Public Speaking, Business Writing, Journalism, Public Relations, etc. In HMPSSING, students can practice their skills and get to learn real cases related to those courses. HMPSSING now has 24 members in total. Usually, every October, HMPSSING will hold a general open recruitment for all English Letters department students. Una said that the member selection process will usually be carried out through SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) screening and interviews. (LBTD)
