AVIS Workshop 2025: Make Your Characters Alive Through Voice
Voice is a powerful tool, especially in our creative field. It was with this in mind that on Saturday, November 29, 2025, the AVIS committee successfully hosted its much-anticipated year-end workshop, titled “Make Your Character Alive Through Voice,” from 11 AM to 2 PM in room S.305.
The event was designed to sharpen the ability of our members and guests to imbue their amateur voice work—for individual or group projects—with genuine soul. This is coherent with our vision and mission to “provide freedom for the creative minds of students and support every story created by English Letters students, regardless of its medium.” We hope this workshop serves as a meaningful step toward that goal.
The session was led by Regina Stela M. P. Endah, S.Psi., a veritable master of puppetry, with a specialty in shadow puppetry (wayang kulit). We selected her due to her impressive experience, particularly with works like "Desa Timun," which presents shadow puppetry in an animated form. This digital transition perfectly supports our intention to explore creativity beyond traditional media. Her expertise as a puppeteer, which necessitates using multiple distinct voices in rapid succession, provided us with profound insights into voice acting.
Our expert shared invaluable knowledge, covering different voice types, essential tips for casting characters, and how context is crucial for both selecting and performing voice roles. We then applied these lessons in a practical session, performing selected scripts from "Little Red Riding Hood" and "The Gruffalo."

To conclude this productive event, all participants, including the guest and our expert, received a special gift from AVIS: a notebook and an AVIS-themed keychain featuring our mascot, "TIKI."
With the workshop's conclusion, we successfully finished AVIS Workshop 2025. We are confident that the skills and confidence gained will empower us to embody our characters with soul, making them feel alive and memorable for every reader, listener, and viewer. (Andy Satrio)
