English for Hospitality Training by English Letters Department at Candi Tirto Raharjo

In partnership with CV. Candi Tirto Raharjo, the English Letters Department of Universitas Sanata Dharma (USD) carried out a Community Service (PkM) activity to give practical English course training for tourism and hospitality services. The English for Hospitality training took place at Candi Tirto Raharjo on Monday, November 17 & 24, 2025, from 13:00 to 15:00 WIB.

The first training focused on basic exchanges with foreign visitors, such as saying hello, using simple language, and offering assistance. The second training focused on Small Group Discussion about English for Admin Staff, English for Waiters, English for Front Office, English for Museumku Gerabah, and English for Engineering. The training started with an explanation of the Basic Learning of Hospitality Standard, followed by a practice activity, and ended with a reflection.

To provide a direct and interactive experience, the training combined casual small group dynamics, role-play simulations, and material presentation. This PkM's main objectives were to increase staff members' self-assurance, promote regular English usage, and increase their vocabulary. The activity's ultimate goal was to enhance the capabilities of Candi Tirto Raharjo employees in greeting and assisting foreign visitors.

This first session is mostly for assessing their understanding and the difficulties they are facing. It is found that many of the worker already shows a good comprehension in understanding basic English phrases, but have problems in answering and or lack self-confidence in talking in English. It is also found that different divisions have different needs for specific phrases. The second session would be the follow-up on the results of the assessment and would focus more on the needs of each division.

The English Letters Department of USD hopes to improve cooperation between the local tourism industry and education through this initiative. It is proven that the PkM makes a substantial contribution to the development of qualified human resources, allowing Candi Tirto Raharjo to provide a better and more competitive travel experience on a global scale.
