More Than Just A News: JOURNALISPEAK 2025 Presents A New Face of Journalism

On Saturday, (08/11), the journalism club, INTEGRITY, held an annual seminar and workshop named JOURNALISPEAK 2025. This seminar and workshop began at 10 A.M. and lasted until 2 P.M. at Room IIK/22, the 2nd floor of Campus 1, Universitas Sanata Dharma. Within the seminar, there were exactly 41 participants who had attended. Some of them were real students of Universitas Sanata Dharma, while others came from other universities and even from vocational high schools. Almost all were active in each session of the seminar and were enthusiastic to learn new knowledge of literary art in news writing.
With this year’s theme, “Beyond the Byline: The Art of Literary Journalism,” the committee of INTEGRITY invited a journalist from Solopos, Miss Ika Yuniati, as a resource person for the seminar. After a friendly welcome speech by Andika Saphira Maharani as the chairperson of the committee and Ma’am Epata Puji Astuti, S.S., M.A., as the Vice Head of the English Letters Department, Miss Ika started her lesson.

There, she taught the participants everything about literary journalism. From its definition, why it is important, its power, and how to write a narrative in its style. At one point, she made the participants look at each other and asked them to describe the person next to them. A few of them raised their hands willingly to describe their friends. Later on, Miss Ika would continue her lesson until it was a question-and-answer session that was followed by break time.

After about thirty to forty-five minutes of break time, the session moved on to the workshop part, where participants were shown a short video, which was about social issues that they needed to write about from the previous lesson. This session took about thirty-five minutes to complete before Miss Ika selected a view to read in front. Out of the many participants, only five were chosen to share their works with others. In the end, the five participants received a gift for engaging in the activity and for their confidence. (AS)
