English Letters USD Students Shine at MUN Competition
From December 6th to 8th, 2024, students from Universitas Sanata Dharma participated in the Faculty of Law MUN Competition at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). This was a big moment for them since it was their first time joining Model United Nations (MUN) and they were up to the challenge.
The team consisted of five eager students with each representing a different country:
- Gabriel Ephifanio Suwanto (234214138) represented Portugal.
- Satrio Prabanto (244214002) represented South Korea.
- Seanpaul Lapudooh (214214106) represented Czech.
- Ni Komang Ayu Ristya Pramadani (234214161) represented Iceland.
- Hellena Anastasia (234214165) represented Ireland.
Even though they were all newbies to MUN, Even though they were all new to MUN, they faced the competition with excitement and a desire to learn. In the weeks before the event, they held study sessions together, sharing knowledge, and exploring how diplomacy works. During the competition, the students showed great activeness and cooperation. They engaged in debates, presented their country’s perspectives, and interacted with other delegates, all while figuring out the ins and outs of MUN rules and how MUN works. Their preparation includes researching their assigned country, writing position papers, and practicing public speaking, which helps build their confidence.
One of the unexpected moments was when Seanpaul Lapudooh received the Honorable Mention Award for his leadership skills. This award is a testament to his ability to guide discussions and support his teammates effectively. It was a proud moment for him and the entire team that showed their efforts and determination.
Participating in the FOL MUN Competition was an incredible experience for these students. It opened their eyes to the world of international diplomacy and the importance of working together to address global issues. With what they learned, they are excited to explore more opportunities in international relations and advocacy. This experience has developed a real interest in diplomacy, and they are excited to continue their journey in this field. Hopefully, they or the other students can participate in competitions like this in the future. It was an unforgettable experience that they will never forget.
