USINDO Students Visiting Borobudur Temple
After living in Indonesia for 2 weeks, the students had their first fieldtrip on Saturday, 10th June. At this fieldtrip, the students were accompanied by 4 tutors from Sastra Inggris Universitas Sanata Dharma. The tutors were Tjia (2012), Agatha (2012), Ray (2013), and Vita (2013). We departed from Yogyakarta at 3 A.M in the early morning. The first destination for this fieldtrip was Stumbu Peak. From the peak, the students could see the sunrise around Borobudur Temple. I could see how they were on fire to see the sunrise. Although the way to reach the peak was quite difficult, they could walk fast. It was good to see their big desire to enjoy sunrise around Borobudur temple.
The next destination was Borobudur Temple. Before visiting Borobudur Temple, the students had breakfast. We visited Borobudur Temple at 10 A.M. The students took a short video around Borobudur Temple. Then, the students were given 2-3 hours to enjoy Borobudur temple. Every student found his/her own way to explore Borobudur temple. They looked interested to figure out the meaning of the reliefs on the wall of Borobudur Temple. After exploring the Borobudur Temple, the students also visited the museum at Borobudur.
The Borobudur Temple was very impressive for them because of its history. Some students gave me the question about Borobudur temple and its history. To be honest, I found some difficulties to answer their questions. This motivated me to learn more about Borobudur and some of famous tourism resorts in Indonesia.
The students left Borobudur Temple to Jejamuran Restaurant for having a lunch. Jejamuran is a restaurant which serves the customers with the food made of mushroom. I sat at the same table with whole students. The students enjoyed the food there. After having a lunch, we were ready to back to Yogyakarta. Everybody looked exhausted but very happy for this fieldtrip. This was a new experience for them. And for me, this fieldtrip is very interesting. The students will have been learning Bahasa Indonesia and culture of Indonesia for 2 months. Hopefully, the students will find memorable experiences in Indonesia. (Ray Surbakti)
