Almost Is Never Enough!
On the last 14 until 16 April, EDS USD delegated 2 teams to compete in NEED 2017. In NEED UMY, Sadhar A and Sadhar B fighting at all cost and passed 4 preliminary rounds in two days. The first day was 2 rounds, and the second day was 3 rounds (1 quarter final rounds). Sadhar A consisted of Anoxia Festyarini (2014) and Gracia Prasetyanti Utami (2015) while Sadhar B consisted of Tiara Ika Putri Ch. (2014) and Intan Realista (2014). Both of them had proceeded to the Semifinal rounds and facing many opponents from different universities in Indonesia. After a long and bloody battle in Semi Final round, Sadhar B could successfully proceeded to final round. However, Sadhar A could not go further and lost in that round.
Sadhar B continued its journey to the final round facing University of Kuningan, University of Malang and University of Yogyakarta. It was a great round under the motion “TH as Religion based Universities, would give free tuition to the students whose religion is differen with the universities’ belief.” Unfortunately, after struggling to get the first rank, Sadhar B had to be satisfied being the 3rd place under University of Kuningan and University of Malang. “It is quite tough for us to compete there, and this is also the first time we participate in NEED UMY 2017. NEED 2017 is so unpredictable with the result and the motion, but we are happy to get the 3rd rank in this competition,” Intan Realista said. Furthermore, Anoxia Festyarini and Tiara Ika Putri Ch. also awarded as the nominee of best speaker in NEED UMY.
“I was a nice start for us to be better for ourselves in NEED 2018 and other debate competitions as well”, Gracia Prasetyanti added.
Despite all of the euphoria, the delegates of NEED said that more preparations were still needed in this competition to enhance their manner, matter and method of debating. They do hope that this moment can be a wake up call for them to practice more and be the 1st rank in the future competitions. (Rea and Rara)
