Another Field Trip, Another Story

In her speech before the journey began the chairperson of English Letters Anna Fitriati hoped that the participants would grasp a wide knowledge during the media visit. Harris Setiajid and Risang Baskara were the lecturers who accompanied the flock.

On the first day of visit, Thursday (22/10), Vera Kresnawati, a senior editor, and Hetih Rusli, an acquisition editor of Gramedia Pustaka Utama welcomed the participants in the main building of Kompas-Gramedia, Jl. Palmerah Selatan, Central Jakarta. They presented the history of Kompas-Gramedia, from a small media into becoming the largest media corporation in Indonesia, including the core value that they hold which is enlightening people. They also told the participants how the editors and translators work in GPU and some genres of non-fiction books published by GPU.

Situated in the complex nearby, the participants headed to the Jakarta Post building. In charge of question and answer session were Meidyatama Suryodiningrat, Jakarta Post’s Chief Editor, Dicky Christanto, and Pandaya. The second and last mentioned were alumnus of Sanata Dharma University.

“What I learned in Sanata Dharma University became the basic knowledge for working here. Once I worked here the lesson that was normally learned a whole semester should be learned in a week. So all was speed up,” said Dicky. Agreed to Dicky’s statement, Pandaya added that what is needed to be a journalist is an open and broad mind.

Metro TV building was the last destination of this media visit. The participants got the chance to watch Kick Andy. The show will be broadcasted on Friday, 6th November 2015. The show was about the founders of an orphanage and a woman with disabilities who became an activist.

Friday (24/10) the participant headed to Bandung and spent their time in Trans Studio Bandung, Kartika Sari Building, and Jalan Riau. [Vania]
