Jakarta-Bandung: An Unforgettable Journey
This year, fieldtrip was held from June 17th-20th, 2014. We had thirty participants and two lecturers (Mr. Harris and Mrs. Sri Mulyani) who were joined to this activity. The participants were not only followed by the Translation Studies’ students, we had several quotas for other English Letters students outside the Translation Studies class. Here, Jakarta and Bandung became the destination of our fieldtrip.
On Tuesday June 17th, the lecturers and the students gathered in the campus around 12 p.m. The bus arrived before 1 p.m. and we left Yogyakarta around 1 p.m. It was such an amazing journey because this was the first time we could go to other cities together. Started from the west ring road Yogyakarta, the fieldtrip group enjoyed the trip through some cities such as Kulon Progo, Gombong, Kebumen, Banyumas, and we had dinner at Cilacap.
JAKARTA
After fifteen hours, finally the fieldtrip group arrived at Bekasi Islamic Center. We took a rest here for four hours before we continued our trip. This was a very tiring trip, but we still enjoyed it. The next trip started on 8 a.m. We went to Jakarta from Bekasi to visit our first destination: At America. Some beautiful skyscrapers in Jakarta seized our attention. “Wow! We are in Jakarta!” cried one of the students. The fieldtrip group arrived at Pacific Place Building. At America is located inside this building. Unfortunately, we couldn’t enjoy At America. It was because a miscommunication, we arrived at 10 a.m. whereas the shows in At America opened at 1 p.m. Some of the students felt so blue, but they didn’t want to spoil this fieldtrip. We walked around Pacific Place building, enjoyed the situation.
At 1 p.m. the fieldtrip group arrived at the second destination: The Jakarta Post. It is located at Palmerah Barat Street-Jakarta. Here, we met the members of The Jakarta Post including some of the alumnus from English Letters Sanata Dharma University. We were introduced with the organization, the work, and also how the process to publish The Jakarta Post news. There were so many explanations we got from The Jakarta Post. The fieldtrip group spent 3 hours in this place before we continued our trip to Metro TV.

At 5 p.m. we arrived at the third destination: Grand Studio Metro TV to watch Kick Andy Show. The show started at 7 p.m. The situation was very crowded. There were so many people who enthusiastically wanted to watch the show. All of the people here were using Batik Clothes and they had to collect one book per one person. Today’s Kick Andy was about the Indonesian children who got several achievements (national and international) because of their innovation. At the end of the show, all of the audiences were given a book from Kick Andy.
The trip was still continued to Bandung. We were very grateful with this journey, although we felt so tired. At 3 a.m. the fieldtrip group arrived at a guest house in Bandung to take a rest. We really wanted to enjoy the next destination as soon as possible.
BANDUNG
On Thursday 19th, we were ready for the fourth destination: Kartika Sari. It wasn’t complete if we didn’t visit this place to buy some gifts from Bandung. So many goods, foods, candies, etc. could be found in this place. We were in Kartika Sari for one hour before continued our trip to the next destination.
The fieldtrip group arrived at the fifth destination: Trans Studio Bandung at 12 p.m. Have fun, laughter were the words that could explain our feeling that day. Trans Studio Bandung was very large. It was fabulous place for the people who visited this place at the first time. So many vehicles could be found here such as Marvel Superheroes 4D, Giant Swing, Yamaha Racing Coaster, Dunia Lain, Sky Pirates, Vertigo. Wohoo! We got ready to enjoy all of the vehicles. Some students enjoyed from the ordinary until the extreme games like Yamaha Racing Coaster. The activities in Trans Studio Bandung were closed by the parade along the street inside this place at 5 p.m. The English Letters students and the lecturers were very satisfied in exploring this place.
Well, we arrived at the last destination: Jalan Riau. It was the heaven place for the person who liked shopping. Jalan Riau was very famous with its fashion. We could find so many kinds of fashion, bags, and shoes from the chip until expensive price. The fieldtrip group had two hours to choose the goods that would be bought.
At 8.30 p.m. we were back to bus and left Bandung at 9 p.m. The rain made the weather became colder than before. The students and the lecturers were tired; some of them felt a slept. This was an exhausted trip but unforgettable for us. We could share a lot of happiness because there was no sadness here. We really enjoyed our trip, although once in a while the bus suddenly got stuck. Finally, after a long journey, the fieldtrip group arrived in Yogyakarta at 10 a.m. (Anindita)
