Dita Journal: Cooking Kimchi!

Lecture and All

Today’s activity began at 9.00 after breakfast. A lecture on Social Conflict by Professor Scott D’Urso started our day. The topic to be discussed was ‘contemporary issues regarding monitoring’. It was such a great one hour, I thought, because Professor Scott from Marquette University, US, exemplified his own country to elaborate his points.  As usual, group discussion followed suit.  The topic of social conflict was apt to be discussed today because we are now seeing a paradoxical phenomenon: the closer the gap between distances is, the more conflict between people is.

Then the fun time began. We were ushered to Jongajib Kimchi World. We were divided into six groups. This time around we would learn how to cook kimchi and Topokki.  Making kimchi needs patience. If we were not careful, the kimchi would not be good. We met an old and friendly Korean couple who could speak Bahasa Indonesia very fluently. They had lived in Indonesia for 20 years.

Kimchi served, now it’s time for shopping We went to Insadong, a crowded marketplace.  Many tourists came to Insadong to buy some souvenirs. I really love the souvenirs; there were so many funny souvenirs here with  reasonable prices.

At 16.30, we went to Moon Guesthouse to try Korean traditional costumes and attend a tea ceremony. That was a very awesome experience because that was the first time I tried to use hangbok and having tea ceremony.

The day ended with a delicious dinner at a Seoul suburban.. :D (dita)
