An academic discussion on Postcolonialism was held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, as part of a collaborative academic session between students of the English Language Education Study Program (PBI) and the Graduate Program in English Language Studies (KBI) at Universitas Sanata Dharma.

The activity was initiated by Dr. Lucianus Suharjanto, S.J., S.T.B., M.A., who is teaching the Approaches in Literary Criticism class this semester at PBI USD. Among students, he is also familiarly known as Father Harjanto.

Carrying the theme “Post-colonialism: Its Relevance to Literary Studies and Education,” the session aimed to encourage interdisciplinary dialogue and deepen students’ understanding of postcolonial studies. The activity was attended by Father Harjanto himself and his 39 students from PBI USD and was conducted in an academic and open discussion format.

The session began with a warm welcome from Prof. Paulus Sarwoto, Ph.D., followed by a short introduction to KBI USD and its academic environment. As a scholar widely recognized for his expertise in postcolonial studies, Prof. Sarwoto shared insightful perspectives on the relevance of postcolonialism in literary studies and educational contexts.

Beyond the academic discussion itself, the session also became a meaningful opportunity for students from different academic environments to interact, exchange perspectives, and experience collaborative learning beyond their own study programs. The warm atmosphere encouraged active participation and engaging discussions throughout the session.

Through activities like this, academic collaboration between undergraduate and graduate programs is expected to continue growing, creating wider spaces for intellectual exchange, critical dialogue, and interdisciplinary learning within the university community.
