Nakhon Pathom, Thailand – The Saengtham–Sanata Dharma English Summer Course 2025, a collaborative English language program between Universitas Sanata Dharma and Saengtham College, was successfully held from 25 April to 17 May 2025.

This year’s course was facilitated by two student instructors from the Master’s Program in English Language Studies (Kajian Bahasa Inggris) at Universitas Sanata Dharma: Merry Christiana and Valentinus Hari Gunawan. The program ran from Monday to Saturday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with 21 first-year Philosophy and Catechetical students participating.

The course focused on practical conversational English and language use in academic settings, designed to help students become more confident in their English communication. A pre-test was conducted at the beginning to assess initial proficiency and to guide the lesson design. Early observations noted that many students hesitated to speak due to lack of confidence and fear of making mistakes. The instructors addressed this by incorporating more interactive sessions, such as guided discussions and pair/group work, encouraging students to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

As the days progressed, the students became noticeably more engaged and enthusiastic. Their improvement in speaking fluency and comprehension was evident—not only through higher post-test scores, but also through their active participation and growing confidence in using English during class.

The students showed great enthusiasm, warmth, and dedication throughout the summer course. Their positive attitude and eagerness to learn created a joyful and inspiring classroom atmosphere that enriched the teaching and learning experience for everyone involved.

The success of this year’s program reaffirms the value of collaborative language initiatives. It is hoped that the Saengtham–Sanata Dharma English Summer Course can continue in the coming years, providing a space where students can grow in both language proficiency and self-confidence, supported by a spirit of cross-institutional and cross-cultural learning.
