Workshop on AI Integration for English Teachers in Bantul Regency

BANTUL, INDONESIA – In a recent initiative to enhance English language teaching, 48 English teachers from the Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) in Bantul Regency participated in an innovative training program focused on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their teaching methods.


Four lecturers from Universitas Sanata Dharma initiated this program: Thomas Wahyu Prabowo Mukti, M.Pd., Mega Wulandari, M.Hum., FX. Risang Baskara, Ph.D., and Rina Astuti Purnamaningwulan, M.Hum., in cooperation with Ismi Fajarsih, M.Pd., an English teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Kasihan, who leads the MGMP group.
 
The training sessions were held on April 30 and May 7, 2024, at SMA N 1 Kasihan and SMA N 2 Banguntapan in Bantul. The workshop was explicitly designed for MGMP Bantul English teachers, and it included practical training sessions covering theoretical and hands-on aspects of AI in education. This structure ensured teachers could directly apply their newfound skills in their classrooms.
 
The workshop aimed to equip English teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively use AI in their teaching strategies. By integrating AI, teachers can significantly enhance their students' learning experiences and improve the overall effectiveness of their instructional methods. The program addressed the need for specific training and understanding to utilize AI optimally, empowering MGMP English teachers to adopt AI-driven approaches in their teaching practices.
 
Thomas Wahyu Prabowo Mukti, the program leader, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “With this workshop, we aimed to foster the exchange of ideas and and how to integrate technological advancements into English language teaching. This training on AI integration marks a significant step towards improving the quality of English education in Bantul.” The hope is that this training program will positively impact the effectiveness of English teaching in the region.
