Sharing Food, Sharing Stories: MPBI Iftar Gathering Brings Community Closer
Strengthening Community Through MPBI Iftar Gathering
Warmth and togetherness filled the evening as members of the Master’s Program in English Language Education (MPBI) at Sanata Dharma University came together for an Iftar Gathering held at the Ground Floor of the Postgraduate Building. Taking place on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the event brought together lecturers, academic staff, alumni, and students, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere.
At its core, the gathering reflected MPBI’s commitment to fostering a strong and supportive academic community, one that values connection, mutual care, and shared experiences beyond the classroom. The event served not only as a moment to break the fast, but also as a meaningful opportunity to strengthen relationships and cultivate a sense of belonging among its members.
Building Community Through Shared Contributions
Rather than being a formal event, the Iftar Gathering embraced a potluck concept, where each participant contributed food to be shared. This approach created a diverse and abundant spread of dishes while encouraging active participation from everyone involved. The act of sharing food became a symbol of generosity and collective engagement within the community.
Beyond the gathering itself, this spirit of sharing extended to others within the campus environment. Participants also shared food with security personnel and staff, reflecting a broader sense of care and appreciation for all members who contribute to the daily life of the university.
Before breaking the fast, participants spent time in conversation, exchanging stories and reconnecting in a relaxed setting. These interactions highlighted the importance of informal spaces in building stronger interpersonal connections within an academic environment.

Creating Moments of Joy and Reflection
As the evening unfolded, the gathering was enriched by heartfelt speeches that conveyed messages of gratitude, togetherness, and appreciation for the shared academic journey. These reflections reinforced the value of community and emphasized the importance of maintaining meaningful relationships.
When it was time to break the fast, the atmosphere transformed into a joyful dining experience filled with laughter and warmth. Participants also engaged in spontaneous activities such as singing, creating content, and documenting the occasion, adding a vibrant and personal touch to the event.
Nurturing a Culture of Belonging
The Iftar Gathering served as a reflection of the values upheld within MPBI. Beyond academic excellence, the program emphasizes empathy, collaboration, and human connection as essential components of a holistic learning environment. The event demonstrated how these values can be expressed through simple yet meaningful interactions.
Strengthening Bonds for the Future
Through this initiative, MPBI continues to nurture an academic environment where learning is complemented by a strong sense of community. The Iftar Gathering was not merely a social occasion, but a meaningful step toward strengthening bonds, fostering inclusivity, and creating lasting memories among its members.
