A Graduation That Touched a Mother’s Heart

The first graduation ceremony of 2026 became a deeply memorable moment for many families. For Mrs. Lumintang, however, the experience carried a particularly profound meaning. Born in Kediri, she attended the ceremony not merely as a guest, but as a proud mother witnessing an important milestone in the life of her daughter, Sheline Lumintang, who completed her master’s degree in just one and a half years.
Sheline pursued her studies in the Master’s Program in English Language Education, Sanata Dharma University. While the program maintains strong academic rigor, it also offers a degree of flexibility that enables students to grow both professionally and intellectually. During her studies, Sheline was not only a full-time graduate student but also actively involved in working at an educational institution managed by her family. Balancing professional responsibilities with the demanding rhythm of graduate study required discipline, resilience, and careful time management.
Yet she managed it all with grace. Work responsibilities and academic commitments moved forward side by side, supporting rather than undermining each other. In the end, she was able to complete her studies within eighteen months—a remarkable achievement that brought both relief and pride to her family.
For Mrs. Lumintang, the journey was not only about her daughter’s academic accomplishment. Along the way, she discovered something deeper and more meaningful within the learning community of the program—an authenticity that could be felt in the everyday interactions between lecturers and students.
“The lecturers do not merely transfer knowledge,” she reflected thoughtfully. “The lecturers of MPBI serve with their hearts in everything they do—continuously, without ever stopping. They are very humble. In many ways, they reflect the love of Jesus Christ Himself. This kind of spirit is truly rare.”
Her words were not spoken lightly. As a lecturer herself, she is familiar with academic environments and understands how higher education institutions operate. Yet what she observed during her daughter’s journey felt different. There was a warmth, a sincerity, and a genuine attentiveness that left a deep impression on her.
She could sense the energy of a learning community that was alive—where students were not merely taught, but genuinely accompanied in their intellectual and personal growth. She saw how her daughter was welcomed, guided, encouraged, and supported throughout the entire process.
“And perhaps that is why,” she continued, “many of the graduates seem to carry the same spirit. They have learned not only knowledge from their lecturers, but also their example. When they become educators themselves, they will naturally continue that same way of serving.”
For a mother, witnessing such care brought a deep sense of gratitude. The university had not simply educated her daughter; it had nurtured her development as a person and as a future educator.
At the end of the ceremony, Mrs. Lumintang expressed a hope that extended beyond her own family.
“My hope is that one day FKIP will open a doctoral program as well. Then our children will be able to continue their studies at the doctoral level in this extraordinary institution.”
It was a simple hope, yet one filled with trust—trust that the same spirit of care, humility, and dedication would continue to grow and reach even more students in the years to come.
