MPBI Community Service Program: English Fun Talk

On 3 November 2025, students and a lecturer from the Master’s Program in English Education (MPBI) at Sanata Dharma University officially launched an English learning module entitled English Fun Talk at SD Joanes Bosco Yogyakarta. The activity was conducted as part of a Community Service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat) initiative aimed at supporting English Club learning at the elementary school level.
The English Fun Talk module was developed specifically for Grade 1–3 elementary school students to enhance their English speaking skills. The book focuses on building students’ confidence, courage, and fluency through fun and appropriate learning activities. Designed based on the needs of young learners, the module integrates interactive tasks, audio and video materials, and attractive visual illustrations to create an engaging learning experience.
The book was launched by MPBI students Anatasia Keny, Maria Trifosa, and Sheline Feranda Lumintang, accompanied by their supervising lecturer, Prof. Conciliaus Laos Mbato., MA, Ed.D. The module was formally introduced and handed over to the English Club teacher and the school principal of SD Joanes Bosco. This initiative reflects the active role of Sanata Dharma University, particularly the MPBI program, in contributing to educational development through meaningful community engagement.
The activity was motivated by several challenges identified in the school context, including students’ low confidence in speaking English, limited teaching materials, and minimal English exposure in daily learning activities. Through the launch of English Fun Talk, MPBI students sought to provide a practical and contextual learning resource to support teachers and students.
Overall, the activity received positive responses from teachers and students. It also provided valuable experiential learning for MPBI students, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge while developing social awareness, empathy, and professional responsibility. The MPBI program at Sanata Dharma University continues to encourage such initiatives as part of its commitment to linking academic learning with real educational needs in the community.
